Position details


■Position 1:
Sensing Technology Development Department, Fundamental Technology Research and Development Division 1, R&D Center
There are 2 themes, and one of them is the theme to do:
(1) Develop the low complexity algorithm to learn at edge device.
- Investigation of possible techniques
- Propose new learning algorithm with constraints such as number of computaion, memory size and so on.
- Providing algorithm description document, reference code in the specified programming language, and regular research reports.
(2) Develop the neural network(NN) which has hardware friendly structure and keeps high accuracy, given constraints such as number of computation, memory size, HW architecture and so on).
- Investigation of possible techniques
- Propose new methods such as construction method of NN with above condition, compactization method, learning method (maybe including generating input data)
- Providing algorithm description document, reference code in the specified programming language, and regular research reports.
- (option)) FPGA implementation of the developed algorithm


■Position 2:
Sensing Technology Development Department
Develop new image processing algorithm based on computational photography technology to enhance functionality or image/video quality of SONY products such as digital still camera, camcorder, TV, PC, and gaming devices.
- Investigation of possible technical options to achieve functionality enhancement or image/video quality enhancement.
- Conducting research and image/video processing algorithm development to achieve above purpose.
- Providing algorithm description document, reference code in the specified programming language, and regular research reports.


■Position 3: - position closed 2020.1.24
R&D Center(Research and Development)
::Fundamental Technology Research and Development Division 1::Vision System Technology Development Dept.
Algorithm development on 3D computer vision area.
- depth sensing, simulteneous localization and mapping(SLAM), 3D reconstruction.
- object recognition, semantic segmentation.
- sensor fusion.


■Position 4:
R&D Center, FTRD1, VSD
Algorithm research and development on image recognition area, mainly human, object and behavior recognition.
- Research of technological trends in the target image recognition areas.
- Survey of state-of-the-art papers, implementation/replication and evaluation of some of the techniques.
- Improvement of the techniques.
- Report the summary of the evaluation and improvement.


■Position 5:
Core Technology Research Department, Fundamental Technology Research and Development Division 2, R&D Center
R&D experience on development of Vital sensing and Emotion estimation technology based on psychophisiological mechanism
- Development of signal processing algorithms on vital sensors
- Development of emotion estimation technology


■Position 6:
Volumetric Imaging Technology Development Department / Application Technology Development Division.2 / R&D Center
Develop core technologies and applications for computer vision, computer graphics, image signal processing and their combination, which provides novel visual experiences such as AR/VR.
e.g.
・Volumetric video technology (capturing by using multi-camera, 3D modeling from multi-camera images, photo realistic cg rendering)
・3D processing such as reconstruction, reduction, smoothing for 3D mesh.
・Depth sensing and processing (stereo matching / structured light / ToF)
・Multi-camera calibration


■Position 7:
Volumetric Imaging Technology Development Department / Application Technology Development Division.2 / R&D Center
Develop core technologies and applications for computer vision, computer graphics, image signal processing and their combination, which provides novel visual experiences such as AR/VR.
e.g.
・Creating 3D human modeling (face, body, hair or clothes)
・Creating high fidelity human textures and materials
・Creating autonomous facial or body animation
・Creating rendering pipeline"


■Position 8:
System Design Department 1, Product design division 2, Professional Products & Solutions, SIPS
Create prototypes of software algorithm with computer vision and/or machine learning for medical products, evaluate their performances, and study the opportunity of further improvement.


■Position 9:
MIS Depelopmrnt Dep. 1, Mobile Imaging System Business Div.
Development / Evaluation of CMOS Image Sensors (CIS)
Any of the following
1) Evaluate CIS (analog circuit, logic function, pixel image quality)
2) Design analog circuit blocks in CIS by using EDA
3) Conduct Feasibility study about next gen. CIS (device structure, pixel readout circuit, new function, etc.)


■Position 10:
SS Business Development Department 4, System Solutions Business Division
Consider a sensing system for ADAS.
Use camera, milliwave radar and LiDAR.
We will fuse these sensors and study to improve their accuracy.
We will also consider speeding up this algorithm to work in real time."


■Position 11: - position closed 2020.1.24
AI Collaboration Office
・Research intern in the area of robot control and computer vision for a kitchen/food manipulation environment.
・Research intern in the area of data science for food, taste and flavor analysis and recipe understanding.
・Research intern in the area of machine learning for robot control, including but not limited to deep reinforcement learning.


■Position 12:
V&S Business Group, Product Design Division, Product Technology Department 1, Section 1
Development of Headphones acoustics (mainly active headphnes such as noise cancelling and bluetooth ones)
1. Design an electro-acoustic transducer (simply called ""transducer"") for headphones (or earphones)
- Simulate diaphragm's vibration mode and motive force of magnetic circuit with CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) software to optimize its acoustic performance
- Design a transducer with 3D CAD and draw 2D-representation of each parts (, and also should design some equipments for assembly process)
- Assemble a transducer and evaluate its performance such as SPL, THD
2. Build an assembled transducer into headphones (or earphones) to check its acoustic performance
3. Design acoustic system as a final product
- Design an active filter for noise cancelling, ambient sound cotroll, etc. to fit for the model well
- Evaluate noise cancelling performace and else as a final product

Estimated annual salary

Allowance: JPY 4,000 per day (Net)
※Allowance will also be provided for weekends

Benefits

Air Ticket: A round trip economy class direct flight ticket between the intern’s home country and Tokyo will be provided by Sony.
Housing: A furnished single occupancy room will be provided by Sony during the internship period.
Insurance: Appropriate insurance during the stay in Japan (including travel days) will be borne by Sony.
Commuting Expenses: Commuting and business travel expenses will be borne by Sony.
